Ricardo is a contemporary artist from one of the most marvelous indigenous cultures of Oaxaca, the Zapotecs; a culture that resurfaced in southern Oaxaca, where Mictlan was the original hometown of the Zapotec warriors, now known as Mitla. The warrior spirit continues to exist in Ricardo’s artistic craft, working with epoxy clay for the past twenty years. He searches for experiences, and captures them in his artwork, retelling the stories and traditions from pre-hispanic cultures of his country such as the Aztecs, Mixtec, Mayan, and Zapotec. Ricardo’s work echoes a part of our cultural past, thereby leaving a small part of his heart in each piece he makes.
